Data management in agriculture with ShareCARD
How MADFA SACCO replaced unreliable manual reporting with verifiable, QR-coded field data — and got its operations under control.
Agriculture is a vital part of Uganda’s economy — employing about 70% of the working population and contributing 24% of GDP. As the sector evolves through technology and machinery, record-keeping becomes vital, and adopting innovative data-management systems like ShareCARD is now crucial for agribusinesses seeking growth and efficiency.
The platform is changing how agribusinesses collect, analyze, and use data to drive better decisions and service delivery.
At its core, ShareCARD’s mission is to use technology for social good through an inclusive, easy-to-use data-management system. It gives organizations real-time insight into project progress and beneficiary services through customized dashboards and user-friendly features such as beneficiary cards — helping agribusinesses streamline data collection and analysis while bridging the gap between online and offline environments, an important feature where connectivity is unreliable.
The need to adopt ShareCARD cannot be overstated. As agriculture expands and shifts to technology, the volume of data being generated grows sharply — making it harder to manage and protect, because traditional methods can’t deliver timely, reliable information.
The challenge MADFA faced
MADFA is a SACCO offering appropriate financial services to smallholder farmers and micro-entrepreneurs, aiming to improve their livelihoods. For an organization like this, a digital data-management platform was paramount.
Before switching to ShareCARD, the SACCO struggled to oversee its operations. It couldn’t reliably monitor the performance of its field agents, which put the information they collected at high risk of falsification and irregularities.
“Ever since MADFA registered with ShareCARD, its operations have been smooth and accurate.”
How ShareCARD fixed it
QR-code beneficiary cards
Every beneficiary receives a unique QR code. When a field agent runs a training or delivers a service, they scan the card in the ShareCARD mobile app — instantly recording the time, date, and type of interaction as real-time, verifiable data that can’t be altered. This eliminated manual-entry errors and gave both the business and its beneficiaries far more transparency.
GPS-tagged field visits
ShareCARD’s GPS tagging confirms exactly where field agents are. The SACCO now knows every training session or service visit an agent reports for a given area — giving better accountability and performance appraisal, and letting management confirm fieldwork is carried out on schedule.
By embracing ShareCARD, agribusinesses gain a powerful tool to securely handle critical data, increase transparency, and strengthen project and beneficiary monitoring.
